Leaving for Italy...Take Two: Arrived!
Well, I have officially made it successfully to Orvieto! It is all surreal right now, and being on the airplane yesterday/this morning is already a blur. Praise the Lord that I made my connecting flight this time! Thank you for any prayers over my travels; I certainly felt them. I was also blessed with a friend on my journey: Olivia, another student in the Orvieto program. We were able to make it through the 5 hour layover at the airport and the 9 hour plane ride to Rome!
We finally landed....with very little sleep (I think I changed positions about 100 times in between bits of sleep...oh the joy of flying economy!). We were picked up and driven through the Tuscan countryside to our destination in the beautiful hill country of Orvieto. We went directly into Mass with the rest of the students. Afterwards we had the change to meet everyone and catch up on what Olivia and I had missed from the first day of orientation.
We spent the rest of the day visiting a local cafe (with AMAZING cappuccino), eating a delicious lunch, and viewing some of the town. We climbed to the top of a clock tower and got an expansive view of the whole area. It was breaktaking...as were the 400 million stairs that we climbed to get to the top. A little dramatic, but that's what it felt like! I got a tour of our apartments and began to move into my room. I have a gorgeous view overlooking the countryside. I will post a picture or two soon!
Overall, I am just overwhelmed with thankfulness to the Lord for this opportunity to meet some wonderful people in one of the most beautiful places I've seen! I'll be in touch again soon. Thank you for your prayers and support :)

Leaving for Italy....Take One
This
morning I woke up with thoughts of all that today would bring. I began
to get butterflies as I thought about being in Italy in less than 24
hours. I was filled excitement and
joy that the Lord would be with me where ever I go! I said a tearful goodbye to my younger sister, finished packing, and headed to the airport with my parents. Little did I
know that I would be back that afternoon....
Sooo long story short, I left this morning with my bags packed and my heart ready for the coming adventure, only to return a few hours later with a sad little frown on my face. My plane had been delayed due to some ice storms in Chicago, and I missed my connecting flight to Rome. Unfortunately there were no other flights going out to Rome tonight, so home we went.
Nice try, airport. You can't thwart my plans! I'm going to Italy tomorrow morning! SO HAH. I was rather melancholy on the way home; but on the bright side, I get another night home with my family! It is quite a letdown to be missing out on the first day with the rest of my classmates, but God has a reason for everything and I trust His plans more than mine.
If you are reading this today, please be praying for my travels. I'll be doing it all again tomorrow... but this time I would love to make it to my destination :) For now, time to enjoy the gift of extra time with my family.
